Dan Castell Cottage Reviews

Steven
We had the most wonderful stay at Dan Castell. Tucked away in the rural countryside, it felt like a true escape from everyday life while still being incredibly comfortable and welcoming. The cottage was spotless, cosy and beautifully cared for, with a lovely garden that attracted birds and wildlife throughout the day a real joy to wake up to. Carl and Tanya were absolutely fantastic, genuinely friendly, thoughtful and always happy to help, making us feel at home from the moment we arrived. In the evening's sitting on the balcony under the starfilled sky was pure magic, and having peaceful walks straight from the doorstep made the location even more special. This is the kind of place that stays with you long after you leave calm, beautiful and full of little moments that make a stay truly memorable. We wouldn't hesitate to return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing countryside retreat. Steve and Kristy.
We had a lovely break at Dan Castell Cottage. Our hosts, Carl and Tanya made us and our two huskies feel very welcome, and the delightful property suited us perfectly. A wonderful part of the world, and we were ideally located for exploring the local area. Highly recommended.
Really nice uptodate cottage. Great view and castle
Claire
We felt absolutely spoilt by this stay! Tanya and Carl go above and beyond to welcome you to their glorious part of Wales. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed for a short stay with our pup. But it gave us so much more the scenery is truly stunning and both the balcony and terrace are perfectly placed for watching nature and star gazing. There are so many ways to spend your time in reach of the cottage, and Carreg Cannon was our favourite place to start with it being right on the doorstep. Thank you Tanya and Carl and Pookie! for providing a truly magical stay.
Sandra
A fantastic place to stay. Cottage was well equipped with everything you could need and really comfortable. Views were stunning and the quiet was everything we needed. Many lovely walks right on the doorstep but things to do locally if you wanted to take the car out. Had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Great cottage in a beautiful, peaceful location. No traffic noise just the sounds of Nature. The owners were very pleasant and helpful. Thoroughly recommend a stay at Dan Castell Cottage. l
Dan Castell is situated in a remote area of Wales, perfect for a walking holiday, with an away from it all feeling. Tanya and Carl are great hosts. The patio and balcony are wonderful, restful places to sit, enjoy the view and watch the birds. The property is comfortable and spacious with a Swiss chalet feel. We recommend it. Chris & Sue

The cottage was easily found even when negotiating the swisty and at time narrow lanes. We were greeted by both Tanya and Carl, they offered to explain any problems or concerns we might have or encounter. We also enjoyed the fire that helped to keep us warm on colder evenings. the patio we also a good place to sit and either watch the walkers or sit and read books. We both had a relaxing holiday were we met friendly Welsh people who made us feel welcome. We will definitely return for more hill walking and experiencing the delicious food we tasted at the local castle that we walked to. There is also a comprehensive folder full of local places to visit and helpful local services. Thanks you Charlotte and Jez
A truly wonderful homely and comfortable Cottage. The scenery is spectacular. The lovely owners gave us a very warm welcome and pointed us in the right direction for places to visit. I could quite happily live there!
Fantastic property, totally recommend!
Lorraine
From the moment we arrived, we knew we had chosen well, for us. Dan Castell provided the indooroutdoor living with fantastic views that instantly calmed the soul. We found ourselves drawn to watching the bird feeder, regularly visited by a woodpecker and a wide range of smaller birds, whilst chilling on the decking. A big plus for us is the walks from the doorstep. Recommend the walk upto the castle with coffee & cake as a reward for the climb. Would also recommend 3 Peaks Bay and Tenby out of season for beautiful beaches to take your shoes off and wander along. If thinking of visiting the Gold Mines, would recommend checking first before travelling as not always open due to having to provide a Guide underground. Thank you to Carl & Tanya for sharing their lovely piece of Wales and look forward to a return visit.
Outstanding in every aspect. Stunning location with wide vistas and perfect for a quiet, relaxing stay with plenty to do ranging from mountain, river and forest walks, ancient castles, National Trust properties and quaint towns. Tanya and Carl were perfect hosts, offering a warm welcome on arrival and most helpful. The property is stunning, warm, comfortable. Highly recommended
Very nice ,Tanya and Carl a warm welcome ,then left us to enjoy our stay ,which was a get away from it all . Lovely setting with just the sheep to keep us company ,walk down by the river was lovley, people will need to be fit and healty, plenty of hills etc as you would expect. A nice place ..Keith, Jan.
Beautiful location and excellent facilities. Very friendly and helpful owners.
Warm welcome from Carl and Tanya. The cottage was warm and cosy and the views spectacular. Good base to explore the local area and will definitely be going again.
Comfortable stay, pleasant hosts, well equipped and furnished accommodation with great views. A new ground floor patio area is no longer edged by a balustrade surround as shown in photos. The patio now opens onto a garden area that leads into the views beyond. Much nicer! Also, inside a fabric sofa and chair has replaced the leather sofa. Equipment wise, in the kitchen an air frier and slow cooker were also provided. A decent sized bedroom with good storage in solid furniture. The view from the bedroom was good and the sheltered roof over the large balcony allowed outdoor sheltered views even in the rain the balustrade here, remains. Decent shower and separate good sized bath in large bathroom. Bath tap might need a little tightening as it was a little loose. Motion sensor night lights on the stairs and on route to the bathroom were useful and sensibly placed. Top tip, take easy onoff slippers or flip flops if youre sensitive to heatedcool floors and dont like us take logs the wood burner is electric, but gives a good heat if required and atmospheric glow. And although the listing suggests facilities are a distance away, closer is the walkable caftearoomgiftshop at the base of the castle. It served daytime food, snacks and drinks.

This property is outstanding and extremely wellequipped! Beautiful scenery with lots of 'nature walks' and within easy distance by car to other towns and lots of attractions to suit everyone. The owners are very welcoming and knowledgeable about the surrounding areas and produce their own delicious honey, chutney and freerange eggs from their lovely chickens. It's also a haven for wildlife we spotted many birds including Red Kites frequently flying around the amazing Castle, which is in walking distance, and even deer which roam freely. We would highly recommend staying here at any time of the year.
This lovely converted barn is an idyllic hideaway for a peaceful break. It is nestled in a lovely valley where all you can hear is running water from the stream and the birds. It has beautiful views from the lounge and bedroom with outside space. The accomodation inside is warm, cosy and comfortable. There is nothing they haven't thought of, and it is well set out and tastefully decorated and well equipped with everything you need. It is perfect for couples and very romantic with the backdrop of the Castle, and the stunning surroundings. The owners Tanya and Carl have provided a perfect retreat. We will be booking again.
Nicollet
This had been the most relaxing holiday. Amazing clean and comfortable place to stay with spectacular views. location was idyllic. Well equipped with everything you may need. My only disappointment was that we had to leave to go home. Will certainly book again and recommend to all that seek a relaxing comfortable stay
Beautiful cottage in a wonderful setting with a castle as well. We had a great week despite the rain. We went for peace and quiet and got plenty of it. Lots of birdlife to watch from the balconies when it was raining so didn't feel we missed out. A great place to get away from it all.

This is such a lovely hidden gem in such a beautiful area. We were made so welcome by Carl and Tanya. The cottage is cosy and homely and you can tell it is so well looked after. Coffee on the balcony on a sunny morning in September was so peaceful and relaxing! It is very easy to get to other places in Wales by car. We specifically went to The Gower and Laugharne on our weekend break and we didn't feel it was ages away. Definitely have a trip up to Castle Carreg Cennen which you can see from Dan Castell. We would love to stay again. Thank you.
Jeremy
A really enjoyable stay in a lovely setting. The cottage was perfect for our needs.
We had a fantastic week at this amazing property! The accommodation was first class and we couldn't of wished for a better place to stay. If you are looking for a peaceful place to stay with wonderful views this is the place to be. We will definitely be back. Thankyou to Carl and Tanya for a thoroughly chilled holiday
WOW WOW WOW what more can I say. The most idyllic place to stay with stunning views and an array of feathered friends to watch. All that and a Castle on your doorstep. Lovely Tanya and Carl the owners were fantastic hosts on hand for anything you need. Very friendly. Purchased some of their homemade scrummy honey and freshly laid eggs. The cottage was immaculate well laid out and all you need for a relaxing break. You do need to drive to most attractions although the castle can be reached by a long or short walking route straight from the property. The castle tea rooms was a highlight with lovely homemade wares. Would definitely recommend and hope to myself return for another stay.
Christine
This cottage is in a beautiful setting and the cottage internals are to a high standard. Travelling through the local access roads can be a little dounting due to the gradients and narrow nature of the roads. The coattage location is quite isolated and travel to places of interest requires long periods in the car. The area is truly suited to seasoned walkers.
Robert
Lovely cottage, excellent hosts on hand if needed. Beautiful scenery, plenty of walks on your door step, Castle and lovely tea rooms close by. The perfect place to stay to escape the hustle and bustle of every day life.
We went to Dan Castell cottage for a peaceful romantic weekend to celebrate our 60th birthdays and it was perfect. Tanya and Carl, the owners, were friendly and helpful and although they lived next door didn't intrude at all. The cottage was lovely and had everything we needed
Its a wonderful place to stay. The owners Tanya & Carl are very welcoming, very helpful, and lovely people. The property is very clean, very comfortable, and in a beautiful part of the world. Its very quiet, very calm, and a perfect place to recharge. thank you for a lovely stay Best Wishes David & Helen
Roshana
The owners are very welcoming and the property is lovely. My OH says WiFi would be appreciated.
We have stayed in some fabulous cottages in the past, but Dan Castell Cottage has been the best by far. It is perfectly remote, yet not too far off the main road. At night, the sky is inky black, making star gazing incredible. You can lie on the bean bags on the wooden balcony and just look up. The only sounds are the babbling stream, owls hooting and the wind in the trees. Although the owners live in the house next door, they kept respectfully away but were only too helpful should we need anything. The cottage was extremely well designed and is very appointed with solid wood furniture throughout and has a very large sofa with matching armchair downstairs which is all openplan. The fitted kitchen has a central island, a built in fridge, freezer and small dishwasher as well as an electric fan oven and builtin microwave. The bathroom has a shower, toilet, bath and handbasin. As the water is spring fed, filtered it tastes of pure Brecon water, which is exactly what it is. We would definitely love to return.
Merrill
Welcoming hosts. Cottage very comfortable and well equipped. Lovely tasty gifts a nice surprise as were fresh towels midweek. We enjoyed the peace and rural views. For town dwellers it was great to have the dark sky and see the stars how we have rarely seen them for years.
Lovely cottage really clean and well presented . The owners were very nice and friendly .The area was just beautiful .We throughly enjoyed our two weeks here despite the rain the first week we still went out visiting places.Clean towels mid week was bonus and appreciated very much.Views across from the cottage were stunning .Tanya came out on on arrival to welcome us ,then a few days later we met Carl and he warmly greeted us which was nice.We would throughly recommend this property.
Stephen
Carl and Tanya are great hosts, This is our second visit to this lovely ... Carl and Tanya are great hosts, This is our second visit to this lovely cottage Great views,Great cottage very comfortable, everything you need to enjoy your holiday
The perfect hideaway with a luxurious touch! We loved our stay here and would highly recommend to anyone looking to make special memories in a beautiful location, with a loved one. Sitting on the balcony at any point of the day would never disappoint us, it was truly heavenly. Both Tanya and Carl were very helpful and immediately welcoming, thank you for our amazing week!
Super cottage in wonderful location. The owners, Tanya and Carl, were very helpful and really delightful without being intrusive in any way. The immediate surroundings of the cottage are beautiful and the area has many places of interest within easy reach. Well worth the 250 mile journey to get there!
Graham
Stunning!!! The views from the balcony are breathtaking. All you can hear is the sound of the sheep in the fields and birds singing. And we had regular visits from a beautiful woodpecker. The owners are very friendly and although they are just next door, they just leave you to enjoy your holiday. Highly recommended
Frances
An extremely comfortable and well equipped Cottage in a beautiful setting. Carl and Tanya made us feel very welcome and at home. Hopefully back next year and will remember to bring binoculars, these are essential for watching what the Wildlife and Sheep get up to.
James Philip
Excellent property. Comfortable, warm, beautiful location with marvellous views from lounge veranda and bedroom balcony. Unfortunately, no WiFi and very little if any mobile signal owners next door landline number, in case of emergencies. Located in what appears to be the middle of nowhere, overlooked by the ruins of a spectacular castle within reasonable walking distance of cottage, this is the place for peace no sounds except birds and sheep, relaxation and getting away from everything nearest town about 1015 minutes drive. Numerous excellent walks from the cottage itself. A place to get away from the humdrum of everyday life, rejuvenate and recharge ones batteries. The owners are excellent there if needed, otherwise they will not impinge on your privacysolitude. A place my wife and I would highly recommend dependent of course, on what is desired by those who choose to stay here. For peace, quiet, relaxation, views, comfort and gorgeous location, we would definitely return.
Frances
We had a fantastic time at Dan Castellated, it completely lived up to our expectations and our hosts Tanya and Carl were great.
Just like being at home, everything spot on, clean, cosy and comfortable. Kitchen fully equipped for cooking meals and instructions on hand if required for all appliances. Owners really helpful and very friendly. Views and area lovely. WiFi would be an advantage in the property otherwise fabulous. Well done to Carl & Tanya on achieving such high standards.
