2 Salt Cottage Reviews

A lovely cottage in a beautiful setting. We thoroughly enjoyed our week at 2 Salt Cottage and would definitely consider returning again. The property is well equipped, comfortable and a perfect location for exploring the Gower. Access is relatively straight forward so long as you follow the instructions. Thank you for a lovely break.

This is the 3rd year running we have stayed at 2 salt cottages and is by far our worst experience there. The location and setting of the cottage is however stunning and the only reason we would ever return. The house is advertised as sleeping up to seven guests but really isnt suitable for that many. On the whole the cottage is pretty clean but number of pans and trays in the kitchen were dirty and had to be cleaned before being used. The cottage was also quite cold. The baffle plate from the wood burner was sat next to it so didnt want to light it as not sure if it was safe to. Also there is no fire guard and we have small children with us. Thirdly if you light the fire it turns the central heating off as the thermostat is in the same room leaving upstairs cold. The front door leaks badly as do front windows upstairs and down and most of the glazing is poorly fitted as the draft coming through is ridiculous. The garden is quite a mess and the fence between 2 and 1 salt cottages is broken meaning my dogs kept wandering over. The shower is missing door off the cubicle which means the floor gets very wet and the bathroom door doesnt even shut half the time. The cottage is also very poorly equipped for the money you are paying and all the kitchen ware is very tired and worn. Finally having to dispose of all your own rubbish is a real pain and means that nothing from our stay at the house was recycled all just put in general waste. This is really poor and unnecessary as the youth hostel next door has a collection.
The property is in need of some TLC, and thorough cleaning. The kitchen would benefit from a microwave

We recently stayed at 2 Salt Cottage, Port Eynon with 3 adults, 3 children and our whippet. First, a simple but important point if its called 2 Salt Cottage, please put a clear sign on the property to say 2 Salt Cottage! It took us a moment to be sure we had the right place. The positives The location is excellent right on the beach and wonderfully atmospheric being so close to the sea. Access was straightforward, despite what other reviews suggest. We had no problems loading and unloading our cars. The cottage itself is spacious, and the position makes it ideal both for walking into Port Eynon and for immediate access to the beach. The issues Some of the crockery was chipped and really needs replacing. Several of the pots and pans were burnt or very worn. When we arrived, the bath mat was wet, and the sofa bed had a quilt but no cover. The sofa itself had dog hair on it. The bathroom cupboards were cluttered with old toiletries and even empty fly spray cans, which didnt give a great first impression. The drain from the bathroom was blocked, which caused the side path to flood every time the bath was emptied. The hot water supply was unreliable plenty in the evenings, but in the mornings it was cold unless we kept boosting it for an hour at a time. The blinds were thick with dust and didnt block the early morning sun 5am wakeups are not ideal on holiday. Dont get me wrong, this could be a lovely cottage the location is perfect and the bones of the place are great. But I was genuinely surprised that the owners or management company cant seem to get the simple things right. If they want this to be a successful investment, Id suggest they spend a week or two in the cottage themselves. That way theyll quickly see what needs sorting to really make the most of this fantastic spot.

The cottage is in a stunning location. It's nicely furnished and comfortable. We had issues on arrival with cleanliness, specifically the kitchen. It was discussed with the owner. Due to the location and lack of availability of help, we cleaned it ourselves. The cottage would benefit from a microwave, this is listed in the description but isn't there. We had beautiful weather and enjoyed a fantastic holiday. In the end our slightly shaky start didn't spoil anything and we would definitely stay there again.
Denise
The cottage and scenery was amazing but the disposal of general rubbish was very disappointing everything had to be carried to the public small waste bins in the main car park There were no large industrial style bins as was expected even glass had to go in the general public bins.
Such a lovely place to stay , we didnt want to leave and we started booking for next year before the holiday had finished. The views are breathtaking and so quiet and relaxing, the local shop was very sad unless you want a bucket and spade so if you need shopping get it before you get there. The ship the local pub did do food to die for and we ate there every night so we never used the kitchen apart from the kettle. Bus service was brilliant and very helpful to the point they took us when they were not in service.
A very attractive property in equally attractive surroundings. Access problematic , if steps are a problem. The letting agent and owner were approachable, accessable and friendly. The food nearby was excellent. I would definitely go again.
Majority of everything was great, only a few issues Instructions on reaching the property were not clear How to remove trash was not advised In the property there was a knob detached in the shower, a brokem lamp in master room. With the exception of these issues it was a great stay, will definitely use again.

Unbeatable stunning location. But several maintenance issues blind in main bedroom is broken, despite reporting it, wasn't fixed. handles of chest of drawers come off when pulled. top shower knob comes off when turning. location information offers nothing in the area. access is a problem and distancessteps etc not properly described. Parking in lane at weekend is impossible and there's nowhere else. A couple of chairs on balcony off bedroom would be nice. no microwave and no hairdryer. A great stay and views amazing. Attention to the above would be helpful, hence 4 stars, not 5.
Salt cottage could not be more perfectly located! Incredible views and the beach just a few steps away. The cottage had everything we needed and was very comfortable even for 6 of us!
Lovely cottage, lovely location. Thank you

Had the most amazing time at the Cottage, the location is incredible, very well equipped with everything you need. Couple of things to be aware of, when we arrived the padlock on the gate had been changed so we were unable to gain access, if you go to the campsite next door they will unlock it for you, after we arrived they changed the padlock so we could get in and out. Also there are no recycle bins at the property, obviously, you need to take it down the road where the shops are, there are no industrial bins just litter bins so take rubbish regularly! The 2nd bathroom is outside but does have a shower and toilet. Other than that we had a great time, and would definitely recommend.

We stayed for a week over christmas, the cottage is lovely, clean and has a wonderful view , it is a dogs heaven due to being located on the beach, very cosy indeed and all the facilities you could ask for, kitchen well equipt but no microwave for reheating, the bed Was extremely comfortable and the children also said the same for there beds, downsides are, no logs for the fire indoors or out, no microwave, bedroom blind didnt work , looked threaded so we had to put a sheet up to the window, the parking is the most awkward thing ever, you have to go through a gate and lock it for unloading, then with your vehicle full of holiday baggage oh and christmas things tree ,decorations due to owners not putting up christmas decs . Food etc etc, you have to carry it down steps then across to the cottage which i know isnt too far, but far enough if you are not fit or have any sort of disability. My husband and two adult children did this and it took 10 trips . We had no reception at all on our mobile phones and we all have different networks so take this into consideration . Due to the season we went there wasnt any shops near by so make sure you take plenty of food etc in winter , when we left we wasnt able to use the gate so had to travel over a field to where the car was parked, belive me you dont want to be doing this , someone had changed the lock on the gate and replaced with a key padlock so we had no way of opening it. Apart from parking the cottage is lovely but i wouldnt go again , the whole family agreed on this as we also had to clean the property top to bottom before leaving and that took 4 hrs out of our holiday, we are very clean people and live clean and tidy so dont think we are durty or messy.

What a beautiful house tucked in a stunning corner of the country! The house was so well equipped, everything was thought of from umbrellas, a super well supplied kitchen to connect four We absolutely loved our stay, it was just wonderful to sit and have breakfast and watch the sunrise. We came to stay in December so it was pretty chilly but the house was toasty, the sky was clear at night and as the location has no light pollution, the sky was amazing to star gaze. Thanks for making some core memories for us all!
The cottage was immaculate, and had everything you needed. The location was amazing, hearing the waves at night. Would definitely recommend !!

We had a great and relaxed time. Such a peaceful setting ignoring storm Babet in a beautiful part of the country. The sunrises were stunning. To step out of the cottage and straight onto the beach was very special. Lily our little dog just loves the beach. The cottage is really well equiped and the bed is one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in. It was a truly relxing beak. Thank you.
Russell
We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage is in a fantastic position, very well equipped and comfortable.
Amazing spot. Great cottage. Had the best time. We will return.
Thanks for a lovely holiday. The cottage position on the beach is amazing for a family holiday. The cottage is very comfortable, pleasant to be in, and very clean. Port Eynon itself is a wonderful location for spending time with kids. The WiFi was quite flakely although for us it was a good thing as it meant children couldn't spend too much time on phones. The parking was a bit tricky but we works out that if we couldn't get back in then we could ask somebody at the youth hostel to move their car, so it was fine in the end.
The property is in a really fabulous location and I think good for any weather, given the amazing views across the sea. However, there were a number of downsides in terms of the cleanliness which could be easily resolved. We found leftovers from previous stays, dirty dishes & considerable dust in the house. The condition of the property was not great in places a broken lock on the back door, an exposed screw, lots of flaking paintwork. Also, I think future holidaymakers should be aware that the property does not offer any rubbish collection or recycling, which I have never had at any other UK property. The property manual asks you to drop your waste in public bins further in town instead, which was a disappointing discovery given the price of the rental.
Every other feature of this cottage takes second place to its amazing location. Right on the beach and you can hear the ripple of the waves at high tide. It is, though, a bit of a stretch to claim that it sleeps 7 4 or 5 would be a comfortable maximum for most groups, and even then, 3 would have to sleep in the bunk room a double bed with a single bunk on top. Because of the location, some minor compromises are necessary e.g. parking but it's all fine, really. We had a fantastic time and will absolutely come again!
Gorgeous location, has everything you need. Will be looking to return.
Great property. Incredible views and setting and beautiful comfortable interiors with everything you could need and want. The only reason I didnt give maintenance 5 stars is because the back door was faulty during our stay. This was handled very well by friendly and helpful maintenance staff.
Truly beautiful cottage! Great location, very clean, comfortable, well equipped and views over the sea bay to die for. Dogs loved it too fantastic walks and straight onto the beach
A clean and well maintained property, at a stunning location. We will be returning for a future vacation.
A wonderfully presented house in a truly outstanding location.
Vivienne
The cottage far exceeded our expectations. It was extremely clean, well stocked to meet our needs and decorated to a high standard. Directions and information was clear and correct so we knew what to do and expect and the position of the cottage towards one end of the bay was ideal. We went in February when there were very few other visitors to the bay which was what we were looking for. I am not sure how privacy and peace would be during the high season especially with the near by camp site. Saying that, I would definitely recommend and return.
Stephen
Getting to the cottage was difficult and would be impossible for anyone with a disability, we had to drive down a very badly maintained track and then cross a field before carrying all of our luggage and food etc a few hundred yards to the cottage. The second bedroom was set up primarily for children being bunk beds as we were two adults the adult sleeping in the second bedroom had some difficulty getting in and out of the bed without hitting their head.
There were a few little problems at the start of the holiday, but they we're soon sorted so we could settle into our holiday.
This property is situated in the most beautiful location. Its magical to have the sea as your front garden a great spot to enjoy morning coffee or late evenings on the beach.
Loved our stay and cottage was fab . A stair gate would have been good to but between lounge and kitchen but otherwise fantastic.
