1 Hornbeam Lodge Reviews

Richard
Lovely place clean tidy very quiet not over locked 15 minutes from Saundersfoot & Tenby
Joanne
This is a very beautiful lodge very warm & welcoming. Perfect . We enjoyed the Hot Tub twice a day especially in the evenings under the stars. Highly recommended for a lovely relaxing week. We will be definitely booking again.
It was a pleasure to stay at hornbeam Lodge, it had everything you could need, it was comfy and spotless and the hot tub was great. It was lovely to sit outside and watch the birds and squirrels who came right up to the door, my husband loved feeding them.
1 Hornbeam Lodge is probably the best equipped we have ever stayed in, an eclectic array of equipment in the kitchen and knives that were actually sharp ! Also salt & pepper, cooking oil, milk and Welsh Cakes and washing and dishwasher tablets all provided. A mat in the walk in shower made for much safer bathing. The hot tub was an added bonus after a day out walking. The location was perfect for going out in the car exploring Pembrokeshire but not so good for walking from the site, footpaths overgrown and roads with no pavements quite dangerous. Narberth, just up the road, was a vibrant mix of eateries and individual shops and Sunday Lunch at the Angel delicious ! The owners could not have been more helpful and quick to answer any queries. Unfortunately we found all the trees and bushes growing so close to the lodge quite claustrophobic and although this added privacy it made most of the property dark and gloomy, so, although we had a fantastic weeks holiday it is unlikely that we will return.

Very disappointed with this property as the reviews on your website were very positive but the reality was very different. The property has been neglected and poorly maintained, appliances ,dishwashers and oven were not functioning, wash basins in both bathrooms did not hold water, the bathroom floor did not feel safe it dipped and was very spongy. The lounge area was very dusty and the outdoor seating area was full of weeds. The property needs a lot of TLC.
We stayed at the lodge for five nights in June and had a truly wonderful experience. The lodge was easy to find and impeccably clean and tidy upon arrival. The information booklets provided were incredibly helpful, offering clear instructions to ensure all amenities worked seamlessly. The lodge itself was cosy and inviting, with comfortable beds and a snug sofa that made it easy to relax from the moment we arrived. One of the highlights of our stay was feeding the birds and squirrels using the feed provided. Watching them come and go was absolutely mesmerisinga peaceful and enchanting touch to an already perfect getaway.

We stayed here for the first time and would definitely consider booking again if we want to head to that part of Wales again. The lodge itself was in a perfect location, secluded, quiet, the hot tub was also quietly tucked away behind the lodge which made it so much more private. Everything you needed was provided by the owners which made life easier. The owners also checked in with us to make sure everything was going well, we didnt encounter any issues but I believe if we did they would sort it straight away. The weather wasnt on our side for our trip but that didnt ruin the experience of the lodge, and having the hot tub was a real treat. Would highly recommend this lodge to anyone
Jeffrey
The only setback on this trip was the main entrance was being resurfaced. But after a few days it was reopened and life continued comfortably.
Matthew
We had a fantastic stay and will definitely be returning. Everything was perfect used the hot tub daily no issues. Great communication before and during our stay. Had no problems but feel confident enough that should anything had gone wrong it would have been delt with asap. Thank you again
The property is located in a beautiful quiet location, not far from the local shops. A short drive to Tenby for arcades which we loved. The property was clean and had all you needed to enjoy our stay. Just needed more cupboard space for food storage and hot tub stopped working as only used it twice as was cold and wouldn't heat up. We enjoyed meeting Robert the robin and meeting the naughty squirrel who kept nicking the robins food. Really enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone.

A gorgeous and well equipped lodge with peaceful surroundings. Was decorated beautifully and we loved the little added extras . Thankyou for the Welsh cakes , apples , etc . We had a wonderfully relaxing break and would highly recommend.
Howard
Wanted for nothing. All facilities were up to standard. Quiet and peaceful. Enjoyed our stay. Owner contacted us which gave us the opportunity to seek help if needed. Wasnt sure about the hot tub which we didnt need or use. Maybe should have been advised to switch off if not using save energy. Many thanks

Last year we booked No4 Hornbeam lodge. This year we booked No1 and we were so glad we did. The hot tub is more secluded and private, there is an additional option for outside seating. The lodge itself feels much more homely. The small details make a large difference. Sykes cottages state that you may need to bring tea towels, soap etc. Not in this case. The owners kindly left everything you need for a relaxing stay. There was even a bottle of milk in the fridge! What a lovely welcome. The lodge was very clean, tidy and very well equipped. Would definitely book this again.

An absolutely beautiful property in a peaceful location. It was a fabulous stay. All really homley and all of the little extras including milk coffee and welshcakes on arrival were very much appreciated. Communication from the owners was great. The town of narbeth is a short walk away with lots of little shops bars and restaurants. We also enjoyed oakwood and wild lakes both a short drive away. I would highly recommend a stay here. I will certainly rebook Thankkyou both.
Andrew
This lodge is in a fantastic location, its only a 20 min drive to Tenby and Saundersfoot, and just a short walk into Narbeth, you could lounge around all day at the lodge or in the hot tub if you want too, or go and explore the beaches or forest walks all within a short drive. I would highly recommend a visit here.

I am a professional, middle aged, well travelled individual, and have much experience of hot tubs. Whilst the lodge itself was pleasant and clean, unfortunately I came home a day early with appalling Hot Tub Rash, diagnosed by both a qualified Minor Injuires Nurse AND my GP, and have been placed on high dose, of strong antibiotics Docycyline and Fucidin cream for a week. When I complained, I have been told Sykes Cottages take no responsibility and offer no good will gesture as this is a Health and Safety issue, and the owner wil be informed and take it from there. I have heard absolutely nothing, and am unable to get through to anyone in spite of sending photographs etc. SHOCKING! Hot tub rash occurs because of DIRTY WATER and POOR HYGIENE, and a lack of chlorine and chemical balance in the water. To add insult to injury, the Hot tub is actually out of use on the last day, as allegedly the water is changed and cleaned. Given my rash was developing, we left a day early, unsure of the exact cause at the time. Noone expects to pay a premium for a Hot Tub and have this experience. I STRONGLY ADVISE YOU THINK TWICE ABOUT BOOKING WITH SYKES COTTAGES AND THIS PROPERTY, AS THERE IS NO COMEBACK WHEN UNFIT FOR PURPOSE. APPARENTLY AN OWNER HAS TO ADMIT FAULT, AND THE POLICY OF THIS LODGE IS TO IGNORE YOU. DISGUSTING. SEE PHOTOS. I HAVE BEEN IN A TERRIBLE STATE FOR A WEEK. SYKES ALSO CHOOSE TO IGNORE ME AFTER THEIR INTIAL RESPONSE THAT IT IS A HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUE, THUS CANNOT OFFER A GOODWILL GESTURE. AGAIN DISGUSTING. SEE PHOTOGRAPHS, AND DECIDE IF THIS IS WHAT YOU WISH TO RISK. WE WILL NEVER USE EITHER SERVICE AGAIN.

A lovely presented lodge with every you need to enjoy the picturesque surroundings of Pembrokeshire An ideal location for visits to Narberth , Tenby , Saundersfoot and St Davids The lodge was set in a tranquil location where your only visitors were Robins and Blue tits Highly recommend

Brilliant lodge with everything you need would definitely return.
Jeremy
Thank you so much for letting your beautiful lodge to us for the weekend. It met all our expectations and some. It was so welcoming and homely The setting is tranquil snd peaceful. The lodge was well equiped modern and spotless. It is within easy walking distance of a quaint town and an excellent base for exploring the ciuntryside or the dramatic Welsh coast I cannit reccomend it highly enough. Jerry and Lynne .
Delightful property and location, thank you.
Denise
This lodge is actually a nice property. However, there were several elements that resulted in our stay being less than satisfactory. The lodge itself had some things that did not seem to have been maintained properly. The plug on the bath broke after our first use, making the bath unusable. Whilst the owners did contact us about this, nothing was actually done. The taps on the sink in the bathroom were tight and using these resulted in unscrewing elements of the tap and slight dripping. The door handle on the ensuite is missing screws and came off. The oven door would not stay open meaning that cooking was hazardous as it required two of us to remove any item and even then, the door kept swinging shut. This resulted in our being unwilling to subsequently use this. The TV remote does not correspond with the symbols thereon which meant that we had to contact reception to find out how to get subtitles up. The hot tub is lovely in itself, however, we were unable to use this on the final evening as it had been refilled for the next clients and was not at temperature. This information was stated in the welcome book in the property but we did not know this before we arrived. We have stayed in several properties with hot tubs before, including two at Herons Brook, and this has never been an issue in the past. It is disappointing to book a property with this facility, only to find that it is not avaiable for one of the nights. This should be made clear on the listing for the property. Some of these points may seem trivial but the combination meant that our stay was not the excellent experience we have been used to in the past. We feel somewhat let down and are now reluctant to book again.
We stayed at the lodge for 5 days and wished we could have stayed longer. What a lovely place to be. The hot tub was brilliant, the area was very secluded, quiet and private. It was a pleasurable stay and would highly recommend anyone who is looking to stay there. The pictures don't do it enough justice!
Catherine

Andrew
The lodge itself is very nice and spacious. When we arrived, reception was closed. A relative had stayed at the same lodge the previous week and we contacted him and he gave s a code for the keys to get in. Luckily it was the same! There were some issues at the lodge. The decking is way too slippery even in the poor weather which we had. Only 2 of the gas hobs on the cooker worked but the main thing for us was the water in the hot tub was too cold. It was set at 36 degrees and we were asked not to adjust. For a winter break, this 'attraction' for us was disappointing and we did not use. I looked for cottages with a hot tub.
